Why faction, and not the alphabet
A long list of names is an index; three factions is a decision. Allegiance is carried on every character in this catalogue and it splits them cleanly, which an alphabet never does — alphabetical order hands a character with a single hilt the same weight as a character with dozens, and it only helps the visitor who already knows the name they came for. Band the page by faction and the visitor who arrives thinking “I want a Sith saber” finally has somewhere to land.
Jedi, Sith, and the ones in between
The two large bands are the ones most people arrive with. Jedi covers the Order, its masters and its padawans, and the ones who trained inside it before walking away from it. Sith covers everyone who built a hilt on the other side of that fight, including a few who never carried the title. Beyond the Order is where the Rebellion’s saber-carriers and the Mandalorians sit, because neither allegiance is large enough to hold a band of its own and neither belongs underneath the other two.
When a character straddles a band
A handful of names carry hilts on both sides — a Jedi who fell, a Sith who started in the Temple. Each one sits in the band its hilts mostly belong to, and where the split is even it sits with the side its story ends on. No character appears twice on this page. If you want the other reading of the same catalogue, browse by era instead: fourteen of these names span two eras or more, which is exactly why the era cut is offered alongside this one rather than folded into it.
