Selected from within the Jedi Order, Temple Guards surrendered their names, their histories, and their individual identities to take up the golden double-bladed pike. Where other Jedi carried their personality into their fighting style, the Guards became something else entirely — a symbol rather than a person, defined wholly by the threshold they were sworn to protect.
What made the transition permanent was the surrender itself. A Guard did not pause their identity — they relinquished it. The mask became the face, the title became the name, and whatever path they had walked as a named Jedi ceased to matter. Duty to the Temple outweighed everything that came before it.
That anonymity carried into canon through Star Wars: The Clone Wars, where the Guards appear during the Fall of the Jedi era — a period when the Order's foundations were already fracturing. They held their posts regardless, faces hidden, purpose unchanged.
The mask never came off — and that was exactly the point.
