The Last Teacher of a Dying Order
Born around 896 BBY, Yoda belonged to a rare and ancient species whose homeworld and name were never revealed — even to those closest to him. He began training other Jedi when still a century young, and over the generations that followed became the Order's most revered teacher: small in stature, immeasurable in wisdom and Force ability, and ultimately its Grand Master.
When Palpatine revealed himself as Darth Sidious and Order 66 swept across the galaxy, Yoda survived where almost every other Jedi did not. He returned to Coruscant and duelled the self-declared Emperor directly — and when retreat became the only honest option, he took it. That choice led him to Dagobah, to exile, and to the final act of a very long life.
On Dagobah, exile became purpose. Yoda trained one final student — Luke Skywalker — during the Galactic Civil War, passing on what the Order had been before the Fall of the Jedi era of Episode II: Attack of the Clones, Episode III: Revenge of the Sith, and The Clone Wars took it apart. Both designs on this page come from that period.
He died on Dagobah as he had lived — certain in the Force, and at peace with what he had given.
